Wer einen Band mit Aktfotografien aus den neunziger Jahren aufschlägt, hat ganz bestimmte Vorstellungen von dem, was ihn erwartet: wohlgestaltete Körper junger Frauen und Männer, drapiert in ein Ambiente, das ihre Schönheit unterstreicht, ein stilvoll eingerichtetes Zimmer, eine reizvolle Landschaft oder ein perfekt ausgeleuchtetes Studio, in Posen, die den Blick des Betrachters auf bestimmte Körperpartien lenken sollen, mal einstudiert und klassisch, mal einfach nur crazy, und umgeben zuweilen von den merkwürdigsten Gegenständen aus Plastik oder Metall. Nicht weniger phantasievoll als die Bilder muten oftmals die Titel solcher Bände an. Statt den Inhalt mit einer griffigen Formel zu charakterisieren, bahnen sie einen ersten Zugang zu dessen Interpretation. Ein Portfolio, das derartige Erwartungen des Publikums unterläuft, kann eigentlich nur enttäuschen oder-positiv überraschen. Paolo Roversi hat seinen Fotoband NUDI, Akte, genannt, und der Betrachter tut gut daran, diesen Titel wörtlich zu nehmen, verbirgt sich dahinter doch ein ästhetisches Programm. Nacktheit manifestiert sich bereits dort, wo man sie bei einem kommerziellen Produkt am wenigsten erwarten würde, nämlich beim Einband, der von Gerhard Steidl und Paolo Roversi in gemeinsamer Arbeit gestaltet wurde. Wollweißes Leinen, geschützt von einem Pergament-Umschlag und einem Schuber, faßt das Werk des Künstlers zu einem Buch zusammen und umgibt schützend jene Frauen und Mädchen, die sich zuvor schutzlos der Kamera des Fotografen präsentiert haben. Darauf befinden sich der Name des Fotografen sowie der Titel des Buches. Weitere Informationen sind ihm nicht zu entnehmen. Die 46 ganzseitigen Aufnahmen lösen das, was der Titel verspricht, in mancherlei Hinsicht ein. Die Porträtierten sind nackt, nicht nur weil sie gänzlich unbekleidet sind, sondern weil weder irgendwelche Requisiten die Aufmerksamkeit von ihren Körpern ablenken, noch irgendein Posing beim Betrachter die Illusion weckt, es solle hier etwas anderes abgebildet werden als eben nackte Mädchen. Transparent und schemenhaft, scheinen ihre Konturen zuweilen mit dem Bildhintergrund zu verschmelzen. Lediglich Kopf-und Schambehaarung treten als markante dunkle Flecke aus dem einheitlichen Farbton der Bilder hervor. Nach Erläuterungen sucht man vergebens. Kein begleitender Text, kein Vor-oder Nachwort, noch nicht einmal Seitenzahlen greifen in die Auseinandersetzung des Betrachters mit den Bildern ein. Von den Models erfährt man zu Beginn des Bandes lediglich die Vornamen. Die partielle Wahrung von Anonymität sowie die besondere fotografische Technik lassen leicht vergessen, daß es sich um Stars der Modelszene handelt: Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Amber Valetta, Tatjana Patitz und andere. Künstlerisch wandelt Roversi mit seinen Bildern letztlich auf einem schmalen Grad. The photographs are so erotic and sexy but the photographer has taken the images so that they look more like fine art drawings. I know this book is out of print now, and I am fortunate to have a copy with the original cardboard sleeve and tissue cover and I would not part with it for the World. If you ever see it for sale-buy it and cherish it like I do. Its a beautiful book of not just photographs but art of the highest order.
