Lane and unanimously agreed to by the meeting: --"That this Association welcomes the proposal made by the L.A. for a uniform common code of cataloguing rules, and requests the Executive Board to take such action to further the proposal as may seem to it wise." As regards the "method of procedure" considered desirable, I had some conversation with Mr. Hanson, the Chairman of the A.L.A. Catalogue Committee, and it was agreed by us, so far as we felt able to pledge our respective committees, that to facilitate matters our committee should at once prepare a schedule of rules wherein we differed from or supplemented those contained in the advance edition of the A.L.A. rules, stating briefly our reasons for the same, and send it to the A.L.A. committee; while the A.L.A. committee should prepare a scheme of working and submit it for the approval of our committee. I have every hope that the proposal of our Association will fully commend itself to the A.L.A. committee, and I see no reason why the work of the two committees should be either difficult or protracted. Should the result desired be brought to pass a great thing will have been done, and, whatever other results may accrue from the St. Louis meeting, this alone will entitle it to an important place among international library gatherings.
