A compelling glimpse into a changing world, Beyond Rope And Fence draws you into a British setting where public pressure and private conscience collide. A quiet drama unfolds with stark immediacy, inviting readers to weigh freedom against obligation, and choice against convention. I read this book when I was in grammar school. I read it over and over. Horses were a fascination for me and so was the feel of freedom. A lifetime later I hunted this book down and reread it at 68 years old. I was surprised to find that it held me in its grip again. Maybe it's the tension between what was natural and how it's forced to bend to progress. I didn't cry this time, but felt the poignancy of this beautifully written story. Highly recommend for ages 10 to 110.

A beautiful look into a wild mares mind
I first read this book when I was in the first grade and when I graduated to junior high it was given to me along with a box of others. Queen is every wild horse that will never be ridden and never tamed. Even though this book is for mainly horse lovers, it has a pull to it that will keep you reading just to find out if she makes it out okay. I wont give away the end but undoubtly no horse can run forever. I found myself searching through boxes and boxes of books just because I ached to read it once more. That has to say something.
