The power to know is dependent upon several elements, and these will be described briefly in this chapter to bring clearly before us the mental nature of the boy. How the leader will make use of these elements in the process of teaching will appear in a later chapter. 3. Attention is described as "focussed consciousness." When the mind ceases to consider NOTES The Boy's Mind Put more emphasis upon the stimulation of the mind than upon the storing of it. To cause a boy to want to study and show him how to study should be the aim of every leader. Simply to accomplish the feat of pouring into his mind facts which he may or may not be able to recall in later times, is a poor substitute for real instruction. Ample is the Bible class leader's reward when he sees in his boys an awakening interest in the Bible story and its teachings, and discovers to them the way in which this interest can be made permanent. A boy seeking a definition of a word might be given that definition by his teacher, but if the teacher leads him to the dictionary and causes him to have the joy of discovery of roots and prefixes and shades of meaning, the boy has then had opened up to him the whole world of language: and that is better than giving him the definition of a single word to be remembered and spoken parrot-like. I highly recomment this textbook because it provides minimal background information as to what Unix is, how it is used, and how to use it. Should be used as a supplemental resource parallel advanced bash shell coding/programming.
