Three Wednesdays, Book II in the Jake and Dora series, takes place during an extremely volatile time period in our nation's history. This novel interweaves Jake and Dora's two parallel lives after they parted company at the end of Sheltering in Place, and the reader wonders if they will ever meet again. On January 6, 2021, when Joe "Jake" Jacobson, in a dusty little town in Georgia, sees someone he used to know breaching the United States Capitol building on the television news during that now-infamous insurrection, a chain reaction of memories coalesces, and he realizes that same man may have been responsible for the murder of his wife and child years before. So begins his search for the truth. Meanwhile, Dora, still living and working in Maine, also witnesses history in the making on the television that fateful day. The two story lines (Jake's and Dora's) are full of adventure, intrigue, and suspense. Will Jake finally be able to close the final chapter of his tragic past so he can move forward into a fuller and richer life? Will Dora be waiting for him?

In ââ?¬Å"Three Wednesdays: Insurrection, Impeachment, Inauguration (Book 2, A Jake and Dora Novel)ââ?¬Â? by Priscilla Audette, we revisit the main characters, Dora and Jake. Dora has kept busy with her job as a college professor and Jake has continued wandering around wherever life takes him, currently Georgia. Both have been following the news very closely and canââ?¬â?¢t believe how President Trump has incited such chaos with the storming of rioters in the United States Capitol building in Washington, DC.
As Jake is watching, he cant believe his eyes. One of the rioters is none other than the very man he thinks was the murderer of his wife and child years ago. He vows justice will be served one way or another, and this criminal will pay for the two lives he took. Its just a matter of how far Jake will go to see this through. Does Jake find the murderer of his wife and child and take matters into his own hands? Will he and Dora ever cross paths again?
In this second book of the Jake and Dora series, Ms. Audette shared what happened to both of them since they were last with each other a year ago. Dora busied herself with her career as a college professor, and Jake continued roaming around the United States landing wherever his fancy took him. Now in Georgia, Jake cant believe the chaos President Trump incited with rioters storming the Capitol because he felt the election was rigged.
In the first book of this series, I found myself loving both Dora and Jakeâs characters, and wondered after Jake left, if they would ever cross paths again. Oddly for much of this book, we see the separate lives of Dora and Jake. I honestly got frustrated, hoping that a romance would blossom at some point, but it was clear this wasnât the time or place for it. Jake was on a mission for revenge once he saw his wife and daughterâs murderer on TV, so I guess he needed to seek the revenge he saw fit in order to move on with his life â" with or without Dora being part of it. I just had hoped that something would come from their friendship in Book 1 and continue through this book.
This book is more heavily wrapped around politics than trying to develop something further between Dora and Jake. I know this was supposed to be a mystery novel, and I just felt it was more a political novel than anything else. The author included a disclaimer that she knew many of her readers may not agree with the political point of view within this novel, but she fully expected her readers to defend her right to have that point of view.
While I fully defend anyones freedom of speech and press, in my opinion, this book was too politically based, more than I thought it would be. I sincerely thought we would pick up with some glimmer of hope of Jake and Dora continuing some form of relationship. Instead, the focus of the entire book was politics. I would have liked to see something more happen for Dora and Jake, one way or another.
I did enjoy reading about seeing other close connections Jake had in his life from being a retired cop many years ago. It was nice to see new characters introduced in this book and have them turn out to be almost like family to him. I liked hearing more of the backstory to what exactly happened when Jakes wife and daughter were murdered, and exactly why this heinous act even happened in the first place.
It explained more intricately why Jake was who he was the past few years, and why he left the police force. He is a complicated character with many layers that need peeling back to fully understand who he is and why he acts the way he does in situations. Im curious to see what comes of his storyline in the third book of the series.
Overall, this book helped me pass the time and I enjoyed seeing the deeper character development of Jake in ââ?¬Å"Three Wednesdaysââ?¬Â? by author Patricia Audette. Iââ?¬â?¢m a huge fan of both Dora and Jake, and I canââ?¬â?¢t wait to see what the third book in this series has in store for readers.
