In Telling Time the emphasis is on the telling, about the Westerly clan on the occasion of the patriarch's last illness. Each one-and there are a lot of them- has his/her chance to place things is perspective over the years .Wright has a magic way with words and knows a good bit about the dynamics of families, and places the Westerly's in time in a way that illuminates our own family life. Beyond the narrative, which is fine, this is very good writing. Wright's novel, Tony & Susan, has just been re-published in England.
