The good news is that this book is available at all. Jack Spurling was one of the great of the 20th century marine/ship painters and reproductions of his work are scarce, especially ones depicting steam powered vessels, of which there are a number in this volume. The bad news is that the quality of the color reproduction in the book is really poor, probably because the original art was not available. To see Spurling as he should be seen, go to the three very rare Blue Peter anthologies of the 1920s. Still, nothing is perfect in this life and this title will probably be welcomed by ship afficinados.
