Illustrated with monochrome photographs and 9 maps, 3 of which are fold-out. First English editon, a translation from the German edition of 1956. Dust-jacket protected by reinforced mylar covers. Not an ex-library copy, from a private collection. Minor toning inside of boards were tabs from mylar had been affixed and some finger soiling and light self-wear to jacket on white of rear panel. Else a very clean, square, unmarked copy of an exceedingly scarce first edition, in a very nice dust-jacket. No previous ownership marks. Colonel Bohmer fought at Cassino and gives a balanced, studied appraisal of the troops, tactics and commanders involved in the battle. Most controversial of his assertions is that, prior to the aerial assult, the monastary was not used by the Germans for "military" purposes. v very good+ copy in a very good+ dust-jacket.
