(London and New York: Phaidon, 2006).]. Fine in Fine original glassine dust jacket. Produced with the same deadpan style that characterized his previous artist's books, "Twentysix Gasoline Stations" and "Various Small Fires and Milk, " this book presents a distinctly American typological study of the ubiquitous post-war Los Angeles apartment buildings, here identified in the titles only by their addresses. In some cases, imposing minimalist structures dwarf the surrounding landscape; in other instances, superficial, faux-exotic themes pathetically exude a desperate attempt to create some sort of oasis for residents amid the sprawling city.
