In this murder mystery, the protagonist Virgil Guppy gets into a lot of mischief through his lack of foresight. Virgil is a bit of a 'yuppie.' He buys himself a Jaguar to complete the identity he has been trying to build up with a flat, a job, a certain wardrobe and a special girlfriend. The Jaguar is a bit battered, but the mileage is low.
