Seller's Description:
Near Fine. Text in English and German. 208 pp. Moderate rubbing/scuffing to the covers. Small bump to rear corner. Werner Blaser uses striking and attractive pictures to illustrate the diversity of the 'atrium'. His photographs take us to palace courtyards ( Granada, Beijing), monastic courtyards and cloisters (Japan, Burgundy) and farm courtyards (South America, Europe) and conclude with the atria of modern row houses in Chicago. Courtyards differ in size, style and function but common to them all is the direct relationship to the sky and to nature. The photographs and drawings are accompanied by short, informative texts. Johannes Spalt wrote the richly illustrated preface, which provides an interesting introduction to the architectural and cultural history of the atrium.
