This is a very long book, beautifully written, possibly Corelli's best written book. It is a tale of twin soul love and reincarnation set at the end of the 19th century.
The story centres around a poet longing for fame who became deeply sceptical of life after not achieving it.
He goes to a monastery in Europe and meets a Chaldean priest who helps him connect with his twin soul. He leads him to an experience which results in him being taken back in time to an exciting past life in the middle east and befriending a famous poet, who was in fact himself.
Having given up on spirituality, he finds himself restored to his beliefs and eventually goes back to his former life intending to try to help humanity with his poetry.
All the time he longs for his lost love and the book ends beautifully when they are reunited in his present life.
