Rebound in brown leather with "The Society of Writers to the Signet" embossed stamp. 5 raised bands and red spine label. New endpapers, though the original are preserved. Smuding to foredge. Scratching to the leather. Elements was written as a supplement rather than an abridgement of Lyell's magnum opus, Principles of Geology.
Fair. Octavo. vi, 374pp 4 ads. Bound in green cloth. 7 heliotype plates (complete) showing photographs of human emotion 3 of which are fold out. Plates are in nice condition without tearing or foxing. Additional in-text illustrations. Joints are cracked, stain on front cover, chips out of bottom of spine. Lacking half-title. First edition first state, Freeman F1142. A worn copy which would benefit from a rebinding.
Near Fine. Bound in full green decorated leather. Five raised bands. Gilt lettering and design to cover and spine. Marble endpapers. AEG. 160 pages. This is copy #48 of a total edition of 50. Fourteen full page black and white illustrations by Laurence Housman. Sunning to spine with some edge rubbing. Otherwise near fine.
