Witherup gives a good overall summation of the development of "Dei Verbum," one of the many documents resulting from the Second Vatican Council of the Roman Catholic Church. He discusses the historical setting as this most controversial document was developed from prior to the Council's start (1962) to its final approval near the end of the Council (1965). While this book is not intended to give a great historical account of the Council itself, it is very good at explaining the social, cultural and intellectual atmosphere that existed at and around the creation of "Dei verbum."
