The point is things are always falling apart. Pema guides us let go, to find a space with compassion toward ourselves and others to help us live a life that is awake.
This is the third time I have gifted this book to a friend. My copy is well-used. I read a chapter or a few paragraphs as a daily focus. When I am done, I start all over again.

No Safety Net....
Anyone acquainted with Pema Chodron's teachings will know her tone: loving kindness for the reader, the student, and herself. "Falling apart" is losing one's protective devices--- masks, personality constructs--- all the things we use to hide or soften the truth. It's a gentle teaching of being present, and of letting the truth (such as the bathroom mirror) be something to be embraced and loved. And, when you finish, you realize that you feel as if she has held you in her arms the whole time.

the search for self
Chodron's book, "When Things Fall Apart," is an excellent guide for a retired English teacher like me. At retirement, my life as I knew it changed forever. I miss my classroom and the students who filled my life with meaning. Now I must find new meaning and substance. The book is providing a path to follow that is certainly enriching my continuing journey.
