This is a book for all (I mean *ALL*) ages. The colorful and interesting drawings keep very small infants eyes busy as the words on the page are read to them. Those words have interesting sounds and alliterations that hold the rapt attention of even non-verbal children.
The story is longish as such illustrated books go; but this turns out to be a good thing as more fun is to be had here.
The story is one that is at once fantastic and uplifting as it remains true to the real world, where bad outcomes can happen and vigilance is required to prevent victimization. This element is essential to true "teaching" tales for children. And here just the right balance is struck.
Adults will find themselves reaching for this book, while children will be pleased when this is the book chosen to be read and reread again and again. My children remember this book many years later and I recently repurchased for grandchildren. So, you see, I am NOT exaggerating.
