This is the second book in a series by Bruce Alexander concerning the magistrate of London, Sir John Fielding and his ward, Jeremy Proctor.
I would suggest , if you decide to read these books, you read them in the order in which they were written.

Excellent historical fiction
Well drawn characters, an intricate plot and the book evokes beautifully the world of 18th century London. Good stuff.
