Westlake's, "Dortmunder" comic-crime-caper novels are in a class by themselves because the author is as skilled with the dialog & relationships between his characters as is Neil Simon. Take my word for it. Try ANY of his "Dortmunder" novels. Once you get to know Dortmunder's "sidekicks", you'll be laughing out loud - wherever you are - you won't be able to help yourself. These aren't the master-criminals like the guys in the "Ocean's..." movies. John Dortmunder & Co. are just trying to get by (on the wrong side of the law) but get drawn into an unavoidable "caper" each time out, that gets the reader so involved that we follow every word and every move they make, right to the end and then we can't wait until we get started on the next novel. I've read most of Westlake's "Dortmunder" novels and I'm looking forward to the new on due out soon.
