This is the definitive biography (by his grand-daughter) of Arthur Henry, who is now known primarily to historians and literatary scholars as a pivotal figure in author Theodore Dreiser's life and a strong influence on his early work. Henry, a memoirist and playwright well known in his day, was a charismatic, complex character who was related by family and by choice to some of the most remarkable women of his day. His mother, Sarepta Irish Henry, was a prolific author and a key figure of the 19th century Temperance movement. Arthur Henry's first wife, Maude Wood Henry, was a reporter on the Toledo Blade in a day when women in such jobs were practically unknown. His third wife, Clare Kummer, was a hugely successful songwriter and playwright. Arthur Henry's life was a full and fascinating one, and this book is a great read.
