Very Good. 0944089216 At the time of his death, Frank Luke was America's leading 'ace' pilot in the 1914-18 war in Europe. Luke was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions against German observation balloons and aircraft during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of Sept-Nov 1918. Luke AFB in AZ is named in his honor, and his 27th Aero Squadron still lives as the 27th Fighter Squadron, based at Norfolk, VA. 220 pages. Luke, Frank, 1897-1918, United States. From the preface: "In the September Rampage we are going to tell you what Frank Luke did in the last 11, 000 hours of a life that began in Phoenix, Arizona on 19 May 1897, and ended in a field adjoining the ancient cemetery in Murvaux (Meuse), France on 29 September 1918, after an aerial rampage that fired 14 German observation balloons and four aircraft. His victories were scored in eight days (in less than eight hours) in September. On teh 29th, Luke was wounded; he was forced to land, leaving a trail of blood to the Milly creek where he died. The circumstances of his death will be examined in the narrative. At his death, Frank Luke was top ranking ace in the USAS (AEF). After his death, only Eddie Rickenbacker would top him for first place with 27 victories. "
