REVISED AND WITH A NEW FOREWORD ARE YOU GETTING THE LOVE YOU WANT? Originally published in 1988, Getting the Love You Want has helped millions of couples attain more loving, supportive, and deeply satisfying relationships. The 20th anniversary edition contains extensive revisions to this groundbreaking book, with a new chapter, new exercises, and a foreword detailing Dr. Hendrix's updated philosophy for eliminating all negativity from couples' daily interactions, allowing readers of the 2008 edition to benefit from his ongoing discoveries during his last two decades of work. Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., in partnership with his wife, Helen LaKelly Hunt, PhD., originated Imago Relationship Therapy, a unique healing process for couples, prospective couples, and parents. Together they have more than thirty years' experience as educators and therapists and their work has been translated into more than 50 languages, with Imago practiced by two thousand therapists worldwide. Harville and Helen have six children and live in New York and New Mexico.
Fair. Some scuffing and creasing to cover. Corners are bent on cover and a few pages. All proceeds from purchases from BooksKC go to benefit the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City, a nonprofit organization which provides job services, training, and employment to individuals with disabilities.
Hendrix's books are great. I had a copy from the library but wanted a copy I could highlight; this serves that purpose excellently.

This Book is for Anyone
I have always been leery of self-help books when it comes to relationships because so many try to package their mother's advice as if it were fresh and intellectually stimulating. This book does not. It takes the complicated thought processes and analyses of real psychological patients and breaks them down into the building blocks of how-we-work that are easy to understand. A good read for the budding (though perhaps not the blooming) psychologist, the frustrated in love, and anyone who can acknowledge that there is a lot we don't know about how to get along with other people. A very easy, informative, and thought-provoking read.

Great book, wrong cover
The item was advertised as hard cover but soft cover was delivered. Still a great book.

The text is an in-depth exploration of the essence of being a couple. It examined the reasons two people hook up, what their expectations would be and why those expectations are largely unmet in many relationships.
There are useful examples and hints throughout the text. Also helpful exercises at the end. The challenge is to get your partner to participate with you. Even if this does not happen, the author assures that when one of the partners does the exercises and changes, the entire relationship is affected positively. So... go for it.
My reason for giving it four stars instead of five is that there is so much detail that it is tempting for the attention to wander sometimes. Nevertheless, it is a good read/listen overall.
