Paperback thick octavo, very good condition, black & white photos centre spread, corner front cover little creased, minor edgewear. 412 pp. Detailed re-examination of Australia's greatest naval tragedy. In November 1941 the HMAS Sydney fought a close-quarters naval battle with the German armed raider "Kormoran" off Carnarvon on the West Australian coast. Both ships suffered fatal damage and sank. Although more than 300 German sailors were recovered or captured, none of the 645 men aboard Sydney survived. The wreck of HMAS Sydney has only recently been discovered.
