Hardcover with dustjacket, first printing as stated on copyright page, "inquires into the pipe's origins and evolution, it's architecture and aesthetics, and prescribes how to smoke it for maximum enjoyment-a procedure, strangely enough, that is unknown to many pipe smokers, " many illustrations throughout in color and black and white, this copy includes a 21-page booklet titled "How to Blend Pipe Tobaccos, " an 8-page insert titled "The Story of Your Meerschaum Pipe, " a 10-page insert titled "The Briar Pipe: It's History, Manufacture and Enjoyment, " a related article about pipes, and a business card from the Wilke Pipe Shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the former owner had an identity crisis and stamped his name four times on the blank end-papers and added an address label for good measure, there is also an attractive bookplate on the inside of the front cover, book is clean and tight with fine contents and no other flaws, the jacket shows some rubbing to the glossy surface, else clean and pleasing to the eye overall, the original price (12.95) is present and a professional (removable) mylar cover is included; 239 pages.
