Indridason captures essential attitudes, moods, and atmospheres. The characters and settings feel very real. He handles the separate threads very well and weaves a story that has the grittiness that brings the reader into the story. The setting are painted with enough detail to add to the sense of reality, but not so much as to bog down the narrative.
There is a well balanced sense of story telling and description so it never loses the tension, even when the characters are at low emotional points. There is no high tech wizardry used to move the story along; there are no car chases, foot chases, or things blowing up.
A well told tale. The conclusion is satisfying, not abrupt, and settles the human side of the story. This is for the folks who enjoy a story that unfolds at a very human pace. Great reading.

I didn't care for this book. Much to slow. Lost interest in the story, but read it to the end anyway.

This is Book Four of the Series they do need in some ways to be read in order, Erlender finally gets his life on track. There are an awful lot of flash backs in this book you can get lost for a moment. Still a very worthy Tome.
