It became one of the best known works in the alchemical lexicon, and is often quoted in later writings. Waite's translation remains one of the most comprehensive: Writing of the text in his autobiography, Waite observed "It was translated and annotated by myself using two recensions which are both well known to Hermetists"-in other words it contains both the major versions of the work, probably drawn from Manget's "Bibliotheca Chemica Curiosa" (1702).
