Very Good. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" Tall Octavo 0953227901 Paperback Paperback. The Wood of Death and Beyond. First World War Recollections. The War of 1914/18 not only plunged a generation of young men into a living Hell but also interrupted the careers of those who were lucky enough to survive. Second Lieutenant Laurie Lloyd, commissioned in the Royal Fusiliers aged 19, was lucky in spite of the fact that he was injured at the Battle of Cambrai. This resulted in him being in Hospital in England and recuperating during the German counter attack of March 1918 during which many of his firends and brother officers were killed. He was back in Belgium for the latter part of the penultimate Allied advance. His Memoirs give also a graphic account of the 2nd Army's March to the Rhine and their experiences as part of the forces occupying the Rhine. Laurie also touches on the disillusionment of both Officers and Men on their return to Britain. He was still on the Reserve when War broke out again in 1939. He entered the War as a full Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers and, as an Instructor, reached the rank of Major. He was awarded the OBE in 1963 for his lifetime's work as a Civil Engineer with the Ministry of Transport. 111 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, and all types of Academic Literature. )
