The ISBN system was devised beginning in 1967, and books published prior to then don't have "editions" associated with them. It's very similar with movie, music and video game UPCs. This series is a great addition (with caution!) to any art student's library. The caution comes because these books deal with real life, and some of the artists lead bizarrre lives. The covers protect the books well, and provide a nice continuity to the set.
