This is the book that inspired the musical, "South Pacific," was James A Michener's first and also won the Pullitzer price. An inspiration on many levels.

  • Least we forget Jan 5, 2012
    by Joel D

It is easy to forget what we went through decades ago in order to maintain the freedom we had obtained through long years of hard struggle. These tales of the South Pacific remind us that there was an equally important theatre of operation in the South Pacific. Not as much attention was given in the press and newsreels as in the European theatre ... but it was just as deadly and just as important. Here told with a sprinkling of humor. Reading just one of the tales and you agree with the Pulitzer committee.

  • A classic ruined by poor proofing Oct 4, 2007
    by Andy58

This book is a classic American collection of stories revealing the realities of military and civilian life in the exotic WWII locales of the Pacific. Unfortunately, this paperback edition is rife with misspelled words, missing punctuation, and crude type. A trade edition should be released, accompanied by a scholary foreward.
