Patrick Middleton was born in Washington, DC, and was raised in La Plata, Maryland. He has been incarcerated in Pittsburgh since 1975, and expects to spend the rest of his life in prison. From 1978 to 1990, Middleton was a full-time student at the University of Pittsburgh and the recipient of several distinguished fellowships and teaching awards. He graduated summa cum laude in 1983, and earned his master's degree in language communications in 1985. In 1990, Middleton became the first and only prisoner in America to earn a doctoral degree in a classroom setting. Middleton was an adjunct faculty member at Villanova University from 2007 to 2010. He also taught various courses on the adjunct faculty of the University of Pittsburgh. His non-fiction books include Psychology and Research Methods; a childhood memoir, "Incorrigible" and a self-help book for troubled youth entitled "Healing Our Imprisoned Minds" which is currently in use in various state institutions and most recently has been placed in fifteen libraries within the California State Institution system.; Eureka Man, a semi-autobiographical piece, is his first novel.
