Lonne Elder

Lonne Elder III (1926-96) was born in Americus, Georgia. He appeared on Broadway in the original production of Lorraine Hansbery's "A Raisin in the Sun" and was the chief playwright for Harlem's renowned Negro Ensemble Company. A consummate screenwriter as well, he wrote the script for "Sounder," which received an Academy Award nomination in 1972.
