GEORGE A. PANICHAS has been a professor of English and comparative literature, and editor and critic, and a scholar of the interdisciplinary relationships between Western literature and other humanities. He has written and edited volumes about the art of criticism, religion, politics, and modern culture and society. He has also written about the works of such writers as D.H.
