Honore de Balzac was a French novelist and playwright best known for his masterwork "La Comedie humaine," a series of short stories and novels that provide a view of French life after the fall of Napoleon. Regarded as one of the founders of realism in European literature, Balzac influenced subsequent novelists such as Charles Dickens, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Benito Perez Galdos, and Henry James.
