David Douglas Duncan

David Douglas Duncan, born 1916, helped invent photojournalism in the 1930s. He has become famous for his World War II combat photographs that he shot during his missions as Marine lt. colonel. As a LIFE photographer he was twice named Photographer of the Year by the American Society of Magazine Photographers; also given the Robert Capa Award for valor on the battlefield by the International Center for Photography.
