Barbara Stevens Barnum (RN, PhD, FAAN), consultant and author, is a former editor of "Nursing Leadership Forum". In her career, she has held appointments as editor of "Nursing & Health Care", and served in positions at both Columbia University programs of nursing, including holding the directorship, Division of Health Services, Sciences, and Education at Teachers College, where she also held the Stewart Chair, and chairmanship in the Department of Nursing Education. Dr. Barnum is currently an adjunct professor at the Columbia University School of Nursing. In Chicago, Dr. Barnum coordinated the Nursing Service Administration Program of the College of Nursing, University of Illinois, and held administrative posts at the University of Chicago Hospitals and at Augustana Hospital and Health Care Center. Dr. Barnum has written widely in areas of nursing management, theory, education, and aspects of spirituality/holistic nursing. Her books include "Nursing Theory: Analysis, Application, Evaluation" (6th ed. underway); "The Nurse as Executive" (4th ed.), with K. Kerfoot); "Writing for Publication: A Primer for Nurses"; and "The New Healer: Minds and Hands in Complementary Medicine". A fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Barnum has done extensive national and international consultation and continuing education, including an eight-year term as consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General. Dr. Barnum presents conducts workshops in areas of complementary medicine and spirituality. She has two books underway: one on mysticism and the other on the psychopharmacology of psychiatry (with E. DiFrancesco). She also writes fiction--"The Haunting of Lila Tilden" is her first published novel. See less
