Abba Eban
Abba Eban was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1915, and educated at Cambridge University. He began his governmental career in 1948 as a United Nations representative for the provisional government of Israel, becoming permanent representative in 1949, a post he held for ten years. In Israel, Eban has at various times held the position of Minister without Portfolio, Minister of Education and Culture, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as the presidency of the Weiszmann Institute of Science, and has been a member of the Knesset.
