His first novel, Watchman Tell Us of the Night (Viking Press), was nominated for the Oregon Book Award. He's taught fiction writing at Dartmouth College, Hamilton College, and Portland State University, where he served as the Director of the MFA Program. He originally composed BigFoot Moon: formerly the American Quarterly Review as a digital, interactive novel with color, music, and graphics that click into videos.
