Featured Bookseller: Frank & Esther Crance

Frank and Esther Crance Alibris-affiliated booksellers Frank and Esther Crance have been buying and selling books since 1990 in Riverside, CA. On the unusual name of their shop, Esther explains, "[W]e were questioned, and in a couple of instances criticized, about our decision to name our store Pandora's Books. There was a perception that the name Pandora had a malevolent connotation and would project an image of something that we were not. Our response was that even though Pandora loosed many miseries and troubles on mankind by opening her mythical box, the one entity that did not escape was hope. Our hope was to provide a quality product that would encourage and promote reading in general by making available classic and informative material." Frank and Esther are joined by their four-year-old black Labrador retriever named Marley Dickens, after Jacob Marley from Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and who Esther claims "really is a 'little dickens.'"
