Thanksgiving Books for Every Age

Thanksgiving Books Being Thankful

Thanksgiving is certainly a holiday full of over-indulgence! Turkey, cranberries, stuffing and more – it’s hard to get up after a great family Thanksgiving meal. But the true meaning of the holiday should always shine through so we have a few books to recommend for everyone in the family – from kids to grandparents – centered around the idea of giving thanks.

Whether it’s for a new job or a new family member or even a perfectly executed meal, there is always a reason to count your blessings.

For the Youngest Reader:

Pete the Cat The First Thanksgiving by James DeanPete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving by James Dean

Starring in the school Thanksgiving play would make even the coolest cat nervous. But when Pete the Cat gets onstage, he makes learning about the first Thanksgiving fun. With 13 flaps that open to reveal hidden surprises, this is sure to be a holiday favorite.

Perfect for a read-aloud before or after your dinner festivities, this book will capture any kids attention this Thanksgiving.

For the Teenager:

Sorta Like a Rockstar by Matthew QuickSorta Like a Rockstar by Matthew Quick

Though not exactly Thanksgiving themed, this is one of our favorite books about being positive and thankful.

Quick, the author of another favorite of ours The Silver Linings Playbook, creates a beautifully beaten-up world of love, friendship, and hard-earned hope, in which a young girl focuses on bettering the lives of her oddball circle of friends.

For Mom:

Thanksgiving by Janet EvanovichThanksgiving by Janet Evanovich

Megan had wept over one failed love, and it hurt to risk again. But being with Dr. Patrick Hunter, making Thanksgiving dinner for their families, filled her with such longing that Megan began to suspect that the doctor who kissed her breathless could heal her scars.

Perfect for unwinding after finishing with Thanksgiving, Evanovich creates another fast-paced read set on Thanksgiving.

For Dad:

The Grateful Dad by Gary ZavoralThe Grateful Dad by Gary Zavoral

A series of musings taken from  Zavoral’s 1990s column in the Sacramento Union paper.

Zavoral takes on all the challenges and insights, but also precious moments from parenting and turns them into anecdotes that any dad can appreciate. A perfect book for dad’s on Thanksgiving who want to reflect on just how much they love all the moments that their family brings them.
