Extreme Sports: Ronda Rousey and WrestleMania

Ronda Rousey MMA champion

My Fight/Your Fight

Ronda Rousey’s My Fight/Your Fight recently came out to a lot of press.my-fight-your-fight-9781941393260-320px-v2

If you were just looking at Ronda Rousey now, having climbed out of whatever hole you’ve been hiding in, you would think she was on top of the world and it had always been that way for her.  That is not the case though.  Ronda was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and not breathing at all. Though she lived her brain had to rewire itself and so speech and development came late.  That made for a hard childhood.  Then her dad died when she was eight.  Ronda had to fight to get where she is today which makes her all that much stronger now. Now she is the first (and current) UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

First in to the gym in the morning and last out of the gym at night, Rousey is a serious fighter.  She is perhaps the first female fighter to go full time.  She is no yoga instructor fighting part-time, with Ronda it’s all or nothing.  She was a bronze Olympic medalist in Judo, making her the first US woman to metal in that sport. She’s remembered her  training and incorporated it into her UFC fighting; winning nine of her eleven fights by arm-bar submission.

Her popularity has allowed her to get into acting, showing up in such films as Expendables 3, Entourage, and Furious 7.  She is the first to admit she’s written this book young, and has a lot of her life to live, but My Fight/Your Fight is written well and the story is interesting.  My advice is check it out.

30 Years of WrestleMania

9781465425089_lDid you used to sit around the family room as a kid, on weekend mornings, and watch what we used to call Big Time Wrestling?  Pat Patterson, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan, and Andre The Giant were household names.  We owned the toys and watched them on TV.  If that sounds like you too, Brian Shields has written a book you’ll enjoy called 30 Years of WrestleMania.

You can see a fan-made YouTube video review of 30 Years of WrestleMania if you want to check it out for yourself before making a purchase of the book.  WWE has a million fans and Ronda Rousey is one of them.  Ronda Rousey was such a fan of Rowdy Roddy Piper that she got his permission to call herself Rowdy Ronda Rousey.
