Author Jill Gregory Shares New Summer Reads

Summer Reading Beach Chairs

We’re excited to have NY Times bestselling author Jill Gregory here to dish on her favorite upcoming summer romance reads for Alibris readers. See her fun recommendations below.

I love reading books, one after the other, all year long, but my favorite time of year to read is spring and summer.  There’s something so wonderfully relaxing about sitting outdoors on my deck, caught up in a book, especially in early evening, right before the sun goes down.

More than a dozen summers ago, I remember being under deadline stress about the book I was currently writing, and I needed to wind down. So every night after dinner, I’d take an hour to sit out on the deck with Nora Robert’s brand new at-the-time novel, MONTANA SKY.  It captivated me from the very first paragraph, and I savored those hours of quickly turning the pages, completely caught up in the story, while the fresh breeze fluttered around me, the leaves of the trees in the woods behind my yard rustled soothingly, and the day wound gently down.  As night prepared to steal in, I relaxed, totally and completely.  It was better than the most delicious iced tea or ice cream sundae and I looked forward each day to luxuriating in that special reading break outdoors.

I already have a stack of books piling up for this summer’s reading — and a few more on my TBR list.  Here’s some of the books I’m looking forward to blissing out with this spring and summer:

BETTING THE RAINBOW by Jodi Thomas – I love her writing and this is the newest book in her delightful and always engaging Harmony,Texas series. I’ve read them all, and I really can’t wait to start this one. I can’t think of a better way to kick off my summer.

Another book I’m excited to dive into is THE ALL YOU CAN DREAM BUFFET by the gifted Barbara O’Neal – this one sounds particularly yummy!  It’s about four food bloggers, all friends, different ages and backgrounds, whose lives change one summer on an organic farm in the Oregon wine country.

Also on my must read list is BEFORE WE KISS, the 14th book in Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold series. Susan’s books are always breezy, fun and heartwarming, perfect for a summer’s night, and I know I’m going to devour this one.

It’s been a number of years since I’ve read a Regency romance, so in July I’m greatly looking forward to THE GAME AND THE GOVERNESS by Kate Noble. Publishers Weekly listed it as one of the best romances of summer. It sounds like my cup of tea!

And last, but certainly not least, I’m eagerly awaiting Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ August release, HEROES ARE MY WEAKNESS.  SEP’s books always make me laugh and cry in the best possible way.  I’m sure I’ll be reading long past the time that the sun sets, abandoning the cool solitude of my deck to read comfortably indoors in my jammies until I turn the very last page.

Whether you’re on a porch, a deck, the beach, or picnicking on a patch of lawn, I wish you Happy Reading all summer long!
