Good- No Jacket. Hardcover. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Edge and corner wear, scuffed and scratched, some underlining and margin writing in light pencil throughout the book, corners are lightly bumped and rubbed, embossed title is faded off the front board, shelf worn, front hinge is a little weak, some foxing, overall a clean readable used copy! Illustrated endpapers. Red cloth with embossed lettering and design on the front board and gilt lettering on the spine. Deckle page edges. 223 historical pages. "The greater part of the unpublished remains of Anatole France consists of Dialogues which he intended to entitle Under the Rose. he liked that old-fashioned expression. In the course of an essay on the Emperor Julian in Life and Letters, he says: 'One evening I heard Monsieur Renan say under the rose, 'Julian! Very good. John Lane The Bodley Head, London, 1927, hb with d/w, red and black cloth boards with black titles to the red spine, in vg condition for age, few signs of wear, pages a little yellowing with age, in a tanned d/w with a chip to the foot of the spine and a half inch tear to the top edge of the front cover. Book is Very Good ++ No Dustjacket. 7 1/2" Tall. vii + 239 pages. Very clean orange cloth covered boards with impressed, blind decoration and lettering to front board and gilt titles to spine. Very light browning to flyleaf, otherwise in almost near fine condition throughout.
