Near Fine. No Jacket. A few tiny scratches top the rear cover, otherwise a fine copy. 375 pages with numerous photos, including the covers and endpapers. Inscribed and signed by the author. The story of Bruyeres, France in World War II under Nazi occupation and their unlikely liberators--Japanese-American soldiers from the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. The Americans were on a rescue operation of the 141st Texas Regiment, which was stranded in enemy territory and became known as the Lost Battalion. The 442nd became one of the most decorated units in military history in the wake of this battle. As many of the Japanese-American soldiers of the 442nd came from Hawaii and internment camps back in the U.S., President Truman's remarks upon presenting the Presidential Unit Citation included the words: "You fought not only the enemy but you fought prejudice--and you have won."
