A forgotten masterpiece
To date I have read only vol. 1 of the four-volume set. The buyer will need care to ascertain which volumes are actually being purchased---they are not well-identified in the trade. Vol. 2 has an index for the first two volumes and vol. 4 has an index for vols. 3 and 4.
House had a high opinion of himself but giving him the benefit of the doubt for being truthful, he was one of the most prescient and capable political operators this country every produced. He was present during the perfect storm of catastrophes which set up the twentieth century for the bloodbath which it became. House's insights are invaluable for understanding the mistakes that were made, the effect of the Spanish flu (immensely misunderstood and underrated), and Wilson, a most controversial president to this day.
