"In this book the concentration is upon panthers rather than tigers, a very different animal in his habits and quite different to deal with. But there are tigers as well, snakes and a great bull bison that survived a titanic battle with a tiger. These are no mere hunger's stories: thrills are there, but difficulties too, failures and disappointments. But the author, was has spent a lifetime in trying to understand the minds of jungle creatures, takes us into his confidence and explains the methods by which he has been able to rid the remoter inhabitants of India of some of their most terrible enemies." Anderson has been called "The Jim Corbett of the South".His stories though interesting, contain a lot of prose and in some instances, are a little hard to swallow. Corbett wrote basically what he saw and did without the thrilling "Ogre, Mauler, Terror, and Devil". Peter Byrne followed in Corbett's footsteps in his book " Shikari Sahib". He visited the actual scenes of Corbett's hunts talking to people who knew Corbett and even relatives of victims. Andersons's books are however still a good read. Maybe someone will try and follow in Anderson's footsteps someday and authenticate the demise of "The Ogre,Mauler, Terror and Devil".
