Macomber (1921-2003) worked in the State Department in the Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford administrations, serving as ambassador to Jordan and Turkey. Inscribed by Macomber to U.S. Ambassador Philip C. Habib on the title page. A renowned career diplomat, Habib (1920-92) was an authority on Southeast Asia, President Ronald Reagan's personal representative to the Middle East, and a special envoy to some of the world's most dangerous flash points. In 1982, Habib was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. The dust jacket is price-clipped and lightly edgeworn; otherwise a tight and crisp, very good copy.
