The Whistle Should Have Been Broken
'The Whistle Echoes' by M. Liza Marte is a modern attempt to continue a classic story. The first four chapters are enough to let the reader know that there are details inconsistent with the original book, modern thought patterns and actions overlaid on the original characters, a lack of research of the period, and a writing style that depends on the sensual, dime-store romance language rather than thoughtful content. A disappointing read, to say the least. It has one thumb up only because there was no thumb-down option.
