"The subject of this catalogue is the collection of seventeenth-and eighteenth-century European faience, porcelain, and enamels that was formed by Rita and Frits Markus in the years between 1945 and 1982. Mr. Markus's first acquistion was made when he was seventeen years old, and he stadily added objects as he found them and could afford them. This first collection was lost during the war. Mr. & Mrs. Markus moved to New York in 1941, and a few years later began again to make acquisitions, gradually adding to and refining their ceramics collection."
