The President's Daughter is the heart warming story of an innocent young girl who became pregnant and gave birth to a child whose father happened to be the President of the United States. No. This is not a tawdry fable. This is fact. The President was Warren G. Harding who then died suddenly. Some say he was murdered. Her book is great. In Chapter 18 she describes how on July 30, 1917 she finally lost her virginity to the future president after a long courtship, in a New York City hotel on 30th Street overlooking Broadway. Only moments after the intercourse had been completed, the New York City Vice Squad broke down the door. Harding was forced to identify himself. When the police realized that their target, Warren G. Harding, was a United States Senator (he was not yet president), the Vice Squad apologized and beat a hasty retreat. It was not before long that Nan Britton discovered that she was pregnant. Senator Harding set her up in a house in Asbury Park, New Jersey near a casino where he sometimes played poker, and he sent her money through messengers. She was able to keep her pregnancy and the subsequent birth to her of an illegitimate child a secret from everybody, except for her actual lover who was US Senator and then President Warren G. Harding. The child, Elizabeth Ann, was born on October 22, 1919, not in a hospital but in the same house in Asbury Park NJ where Nan Britton had been staying. The resulting book, The President's Daughter, has a story all its own. Bills were introduced in the United States Congress to stop the publication of this book or to make possession of it illegal. The New York City Vice Squad raided the printing plant and confiscated all the plates. No major, reputable book publisher would touch this book. All turned it down. Finally, the book was published. Naturally, as the book featured sex romps in the White House, it became a best seller.

Seller's Description:
Very Good (Minus) in Very Good (Minus) jacket. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. One of the most famous "tell-alls" of the Twentieth century, recounting the author's affair with President Warren G. Harding and the existence of an unacknowledged daughter. A disclaimer page notes that the first printing and its plates were seized by the Society for the Suppression of Vice; more likely, they were more interested in just suppressing the story. Denials by Harding's family were disproved only recently through genetic testing. This is a Very Good (Minus) copy, an uncommon title despite its fame. Black decorative cloth binding, with fancy gilt lettering and ruling on the front cover and spine. Clean text; 399 pages; illustrated with many photographs. Previous-owner inscription (1931) on the FFEP. Mildly bumped, with the gilt somewhat dulled. Unfortunately, both hinges are cracked, so the book is in need of reinforcement. The dustjacket is complete, showing wear and chipping at the margins; in an archival plastic protector.

A Potboiler to Get Money
I have used the book "The President's Daughter" as part of my research on the administration of President Warren G. Harding. I have come to think that Nan Britton did not write the book, but that it was ghost written by a man who was her mentor. Nan Britton existed, and had a "crush" on the adult Harding, but there is no existant proof of any of her allegations. Her slander and defamation of character have done great damage to the former President's reputation, and have been picked up by many Harding scholars and historians. There are several reputable medical sources who state that Warren G. Harding was sterile. Nan Britton was what we referred to in my genration as a "fast" girl, and she tried many times to extort money from Harding's brother and sisters; her technique was blackmail, and when that did not work, she published this book. Her success as a best seller came because when the book was released, Harding and his wife Florence were dead. She saw this potboiler as a way to make the money she could not get through extortion. There is not one shred of proof that she had the access to the White House that she writes about; she lost her case in court, and did not even show up the last day of judgment. She claimed to her death that Elizabeth Ann was Harding's child. John Dean in his book on Harding, states that it all could be settled if Nan Britton's child's descendants and the Harding descendants would have DNA testing. The book is of interest to anyone who is interested in the period of the roaring twenties or the Harding administration.

BETTER THAN BUSHES
Britton paints Harding as weak, but a GIANT compared to Bush 41 & 43.
