"Trumbull Stickney (1874-1904) was one of those New Englanders of the last half of the last century who oscillated between Europe and Boston. He was born in Switzerland, graduated with classical honors at Harvard, and received from the University of Paris the only doctorat des lettres that had ever been given to an Anglo-Saxon. He returned to teach at Harvard in the fall of 1903 and died suddenly, a year later, of a brain tumor."-jacket flap.
