Nice, but damaged in delivery
The books are very nice, came in new condition & shrink-wrapped. Pages & illustrations are beautiful. They look nice on the shelf. Unfortunately set was damaged slightly in shipping-dropped or something, causing the corner of a couple outer boards to be crumpled. Delivery also took some time.

The Odyssey of our time
"The Lord of the Rings" is certainly one of the most important works of modern times. It can be seen as a paradigm of 900. The mind of the excellent author manages to compress into a story that tells of ages and seemingly distant places, the basic essence of the transformation (which took place in 900) of human societies in the contemporary global society. This transformation has occurred through two world wars and a "cold war" and in Middle-earth they are transformed in the Battle of Helm's Deep and in the fields of Pelennor. Tolkien is a visionary man. The Lord of the Rings work that leads us away.
